Objective
of the Association

Objectives of JCTBA :

  • Operate a talking library that provides a free of charge service to the blind and partially sighted persons, throughout the island of Mauritius, by making available to them written materials in audio formats.
  • Encourage and develop the listening habit of people with visual impairments.
  • Contribute to the development of the blind and partially sighted persons in the society.
  • Upon request, to make recording of specific materials of educational or other nature useful to society.

The Library operates from 09.00 a.m. to 04.00 p.m. on weekdays and from 09.00 a.m. to noon on Saturdays.


Additional services provided by JCTBA

  • Discharges administrative duties and ensures the physical presence of a permanent staff to respond to beneficiaries demand.
  • Assist in the training of Donneurs de Voix.
  • Conducting ‘Classes d’Ecoute’ at the Talking Library to those blind and partially sighted children, teenagers and adults attending Loïs Lagesse Centre.

The association relies entirely on benevolent ‘Donneurs de Voix’ for the recording of audio texts.

Quality of recording being very important, special attention is being given to the training of ‘Donneurs de Voix’ and ensuring quality materials are put at the disposal of the blind and partially sighted persons. A recording cabin is available at the seat of the Association.

In the medium and long term, the Association plans to encourage more ‘Donneurs de Voix’ and extend its services to reach the needful throughout the island. Associations of 3eme age as well are being targeted.
